Sarah Inger
A new exhibition of contemporary art by Sarah Inger is now on display at Ard Bia Nimmos.
Inger’s work stems from a personal mythology created to understand and order elements within the past and present mediation of experience.
She is interested in the tales we tell ourselves, those told to us from childhood and those we make up as we go along, tales supposed to explain how we got from there to here, but which remain fictional.
Tending to look toward dark perimeters, she cannot help but embrace the absurdity of rationality and try to interject this as much as possible into what she does.
Themes of transformation, mortality, history, and the meeting of fact and fantasy are recurring subjects within the work, often taking the form of staged tableaux, collage, and installations. The sometime use of animal as metaphor within the work is a natural device to gain the distance at times needed for this exploration, while the use of friends and family as models and participants reaffirms an intimacy.
